TIPS FOR HUNTING RABBITS
In many areas of Spain, there are real plagues of rabbits. These animals, known for their ease of reproduction, have already wreaked great havoc in large areas of Andalusian agriculture, mainly Seville, Cordoba and Cadíz.
There are many terms in our country that are allowing the ability to hunt from the beginning of spring, to try to reduce the damage that these animals cause. Because of this and taking advantage of the occasion, from Gestorcaza we take advantage of the occasion and we are going to comment on some tricks to try to maximize our outings.
The first piece of advice would be not to try to set a target in terms of the number of rabbits hunted, especially if our ambitions are very high. On many occasions shots are made with bad shooting positions, which will cause us to miss it, either because of the distance of the rabbit because it is very difficult to catch it. Always try to look for those that we can hunt at the right distance and in good potions. Of course, differentiate when we go hunting from when we take a simple walk in the countryside. We must always be aware of everything around us, at any moment a rabbit could come out and it could cause many of the pieces to escape.
Along the lines of the previous advice, you should try to look for the areas where rabbits can be better controlled. Each place has its ideal landfill and these are the ones we have to try to find and analyze. We must ask ourselves the following questions. For example, where are the clearings and corridors to the mountain? Do not forget that the mountains are another place that offers us great hunting experiences and therefore we should never despise it. The side of a hill will offer us great opportunities (especially first thing in the morning). As the morning progresses, we will have to pay attention to the terraces and valleys, where the rabbits tend to loom and skewer. Don't let it be an obstacle to go up and down hills, as there are many opportunities on the slopes.
Another point we must remind ourselves is not to try to rush and dominate the distances. It is rarely the occasion that the terrain and flora force us to make a very fast shot, which will cause us to face badly and we will miss the shot on many occasions. We'd better take our time, not rush and take a good shot.
Of course, we advise you to go hunting in the shade and in the streams. In the middle of the morning we will go to look for them at the first of them, where we will find them bedridden, since later they will go to more complicated areas to do so. In addition, if we wear appropriate clothing, our presence will not be so obvious, despite the sun. As for streams, they usually always have rabbits, with a simple look at the damage to the surrounding plantations, it will seem obvious. A good trick is to do one side of the river first (at a certain distance) and then go around the other, starting with the one we think there may be more rabbits.
Finally, we must select the rabbit well. It seems logical, but you don't always throw the biggest rabbit in. In most cases you can easily distinguish the size of the rabbit (unless we are in a very closed area), so there is no excuse for not being able to differentiate them. Let's not forget, an adult rabbit will wreak far greater havoc on agriculture than a kitten.
